ABSTRACT
The purpose of this examination is to discuss the consequences of fast fashion, whether young people are aware of them and to examine if they take those consequences in mind when consuming.
To investigate this, a survey was conducted and sent to students in year 2 and 3 at Lerums Gymnasium. To get a broader perspective and more profound answers, five interviews with students from Lerums Gymnasium were carried out as well.
The result from the survey and the interviews shows that the majority of the students are aware of the consequences, which agrees with previous research. However, the student’s attitudes do not reflect their actions. The reason behind this depends on factors such as price, availability, trends and poor judgment that matches what earlier research has concluded.
In conclusion, fast fashion is a growing problem that will affect both our environment and our human rights as they are being exploited. But despite an increased awareness, a majority of these young people actively and knowingly still choose to overlook the consequences of fast fashion. As this worryingly agrees with previous studies, it should be taken more into consideration as it affects the whole society.
